Surgical Suturing Workshop with 3D-printed Anatomical Models of the Aorta

Regulatory classification: Class 1 Medical Device

The Need for Realistic Tools in Surgical Training & Testing of Medical Devices

Vascular surgeons and medical device developers agree that anatomical models currently available on the market lack the realistic properties of human tissues.

They are either purely digital or do not match human organs’ dimensional, mechanical, and morphological characteristics.

Having realistic anatomical models available would reduce reliance on animal testing and human cadavers, greatly enhance the residents’ surgical skills and quality of surgical training, and in the long run, improve patient outcomes.

Options

Whether you require a vascular anatomical model for surgical training, skill development, medical device development, or testing, we offer three options:

Standardised model
Patient-specific
Custom design and printing

Technical specifications

Medical grade LSR (Liquid Silicone Rubber)
LSR hardness: 10 to 50 Shore A

Lifelike features of our anatomical models designed for suture

3Deus Dynamics manufactures 3D-printed silicone models with complex geometry for the cardiovascular, urinary, respiratory, nervous, ENT, and digestive systems. All our models are produced in an ISO 13485-certified environment, ensuring the highest quality.

Haptic Feedback and Realism: Reproduce the feeling of passage of the needle and thread through different tissue layers, just like in real organs. Engineered to mimic the elasticity and resistance of tissues, users can experience realistic tactile sensations replicating human anatomy’s texture, density, and response.

Dimensional Fidelity and Sizing: We offer various models tailored to different training objectives. These include standardized geometries such as tubes or spheres, full-scale 1:1 organ replicas, and models that can be reduced or enlarged to suit specific needs.

Durability and Repeatability: Our models are designed for repeated use. Unlike many alternatives on the market, they do not fray during suturing, resist UV degradation over extended periods, are tear-resistant, and retain their shape even when stretched or compressed.

Our 3D-printed anatomical models successfully mimicked vascular anatomy

The aortas we provided were differentiated in their thickness and the type of silicone used. Surgical residents evaluated them based on the haptic feedback experienced by suturing and cutting during simulated bypass surgery and anastomosis technique. The residents confirmed the models resembled real vessels, providing realistic feedback during needle passage.
